June Update

It's been a while. Actually, it's been way too long. I need to start Straight Talk-ing again more often. Things are well, I've been working out most mornings for the past few weeks with Graham. It's a great way to start the day, I feel much better this way than I do just sleeping in till 10 or 11 o'clock every day.

The World Cup has been good for the most part! Here's what I don't like though...

Don't like:

1. Star players not playing their best.
Rooney has been invisible for England, even against lesser opponents.
C. Ronaldo, with the exception of his incredible shot vs. Cote D'Ivoire, just flopped around
the whole game looking for fouls. The commentator even said that a puff of wind could
probably knock him down during that game. I wouldn't put it past him.
Messi has been the best of all of them (of course), but he hasn't started scoring goals yet.
Watch out for Argentina if he can start finding the net.
2. The ball
Just use the ball they use for all the other soccer in the entire world. Wouldn't that make sense? Guess not...
3. African teams not doing well.
This was their chance, playing as hosts and therefore receiving much of the support from the crowds. However, they're not impressing up to this point.
4. Brasil, Spain, England
Brasil is at max points after 1 round, with their second game tomorrow. But it wasn't fun to watch like watching them play is supposed to be. Spain lost to Switzerland (and Federer wasn't even playing...), and England is on 2 points after 2 matches, with bad performances from their big name stars. Hopefully these 3 teams will turn it on soon so we can see them playing at their best.
5. Attendance
Will some people please start showing up to these games, please?
6. Vuvuzelas
Shut the stupid things up already. They were cool for about a day and a half. I want to hear some singing and chanting, not finish a game and go straight for the medicine cabinet.
7. Low amounts of goals
We need to see some high scoring games. With the exception of Germany manhandling 10-man Australia, it has been a quiet tournament on the score sheets. Hopefully teams will become more aggressive in the approaching rounds.

In other news...

I finally decided that I am going to play college soccer at Union next year. It's a huge commitment, but I can't wait. I got the summer training program today, and it will be tough. I can't wait to be in good shape again though, it'll be great.

I'll be writing more often now. There's lots of other stuff to talk about.

Corey

Reference to your right hand column. Did you know there is a great new book out full of new Jim Elliot quotes. It is transcriptions of his messages before leaving for the mission field. "Jim Elliot: A Christian Martyr Speaks to You" edited by Robert Russell.
