Christmas Thoughts 1

What is Christmas all about? I have a few simple things to say about Christmas this year. One thing is the fact that everything rested on two teenagers no older than some of you are today, and another is that God uses insignificant people to fulfill his purposes.

Isn’t it crazy that the most significant event in the history of mankind rested on the shoulders of Mary and Joseph, two normal teenagers? Most people don’t think about this as their focus is on the night Jesus was born in Bethlehem. The event that has brought hope to the hopeless, joy to the depressed, and life to the dead could’ve never happened if two teenagers had decided not to obey the commands of the Lord. Joseph knew his reputation would be ruined by making Mary’s pregnancy public, and Mary knew that the penalty for this crime was immediate death. Everything in their circumstances should’ve led them to disobey God and not let Him fulfill His purpose, yet they allowed God to work through them. The savior of all of mankind came to earth to save us, yet nothing would’ve happened if Joseph and Mary had decided not to obey.

Christmas shows us a lot about God beyond his indescribable love for sinners. God chose to use two extremely insignificant people to execute the salvation of all mankind for all of eternity. So to anyone who has ever doubted having a purpose in life, go back and read the story of Christmas and realize that God can use anybody He wants to use according to his purpose. God has a plan for you, and He wants you to pursue Him and His will for your life.
